MUSIC

One of the distinctive aspects of Orthodox Christian music is that it is almost universally a capella (without instruments). The voice is considered the most perfect instrument for praising God.

Throughout the Festival, people will be able to experience this distinctive music through concerts, background music, and actual worship services. In addition, church members will be performing in the Gallery through the afternoon as people enjoy the displayed art and vendors

Sons of Antioch Byzantine Choir
The Sons of Antioch is an Orthodox Christian choir that specializes in the Psaltic art, an art more commonly known as Byzantine music. They are primarily an English-language choir that emphasizes its Arabic-speaking roots (and Greek to a lesser extent). Their ethos is distinctly Antiochian. Since its inception, they have been called upon for Orthodox Christian rites and services, as well as performing in numerous concerts. With the blessing of His Eminence, SABA, Archbishop of New York and Metropolitan of All North America, the choir has become widely acclaimed and active in the pursuit of prayerfully offering traditional ecclesiastical music at a high level for the edification of people everywhere.

Celtic Music Group Rose & Wren
Rose Aryani and Avila Williams will be sharing several Celtic melodies associated with hymns and sacred music, performed on harp and fiddle.

Rose and Avila are homeschooled students who met through the North Texas School of Irish Music, which assists folks ages six and up in learning to play music with others, particularly Irish traditional music.

Rose has been studying Irish music for almost 8 years, and plays the harp, piano, and tin whistle. Avila started learning piano when she was six and added the violin a few years ago. They both enjoy a variety of musical styles, but their love of all things Celtic led them to share these beautiful tunes with the festival attendees.
